Tension has broken out this week over at Tide Point over something pretty simple….lunch.

According to Locust POV,  it all started with Under Armour’s recent decision to open an in-house cafeteria at its Tide Point campus this week: “the Hungry and Humble Cafe.”

Hungry employees seem to like it, POV reports, but nearby restauratuers….eh, not so much. They complain that their business is waay off. With the sluggish economy and some companies in the area laying people off, small businesses there are already hurting, they told POV.

Having worked at Tide Point for a few years with first hand experience of the local eateries I would say that this new cafe is filling a vacuum rather then edging into a crowded market. Hull Street Blues and ‘the Box’ were the only two places within walking distance – the Box being the closest.

Quite frankly, the Box sucked back when it was being run by over-pierced hipsters. Lots of people boycotted it because it was so bad. It only improved marginally under the new management.

Nothing wrong with a little competition. If Hull Street Blues and the Box were doing a good job in the first place they may not have had such a huge drop off. Now they simply need to go back to the drawing board and figure how to get some of those customers back.

Message to poor business owners in Locust Point: Run a better business.

Locust Point is better off having the corporate HQ of UA there than not. Ever stop to think that it isn’t about the poorly run lunch stops, and more about employee productivity and engagement? Of course not.

    • The idea of pushing Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake to regularly audit the books of Baltimore city departments got a (literal) airing yesterday on the Marc Steiner Show, as former city Recreation and Parks Department Director Chris Delaporte and three City Councilmen came on the program to discuss it. (Podcast here.) Listeners calling in provided perhaps the [...]

    • _________________________________________________________________________ BIKING!! That’s at least the takeaway message we got from the photos that were snapped of Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake this morning during Bike To Work Day. Rawlings-Blake was beaming in pretty much all the shots we got of her from Meredith Mitchell of Baltimore Bicycle Works, where the mayor and city bike czar Nate [...]
