The big-box just keeps on coming at Remington. The Daily Record reports that Wal-Mart has been talking to the developers of the north Baltimore site occupied now by Anderson Automotive and plans to plop a store on top of the Lowe’s.

Neighborhood activists who have been concerned about the project’s impact on the community told The Record they aren’t so much concerned about who the tenants are as with with the way the project is ballooning in size.

Since first proposed in the fall, “25th Street Station,” as it’s now being called, has bulked up with more square footage, an additioonal 76 parking spaces and a new  building, butting right up to Huntingdon Avenue:

“The revised plan includes 25,000 square feet more retail space, with 13,000 square feet inside the Walmart, 10,000 square feet in a new building along Huntingdon Avenue and 2,000 square feet added to the east side of an existing Honda dealership building,” yesterday’s story said.

Thanks to the Baltidome blog for flagging us to this!

A petition has just been created:
No Wal-Mart in Remington at the Care2 Petitionsite

Yeah let’s sign that petiton. we already have enough grocery, clothing, general merchandise stores in the city. I can always find a place that sells tools for DIY projects almost anywhere below 33rd street. Who needs more new energy efficient buildingds near the center of the city anyway. If you can’t find it in the city you can always move to the county.

I just wonder how traffic patterns are going to change and affect the surronding neighborhhod. Also, hope the city can do a better job of restraining the developer than they did on Key Highway or Inner Harbor East.

    • The idea of pushing Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake to regularly audit the books of Baltimore city departments got a (literal) airing yesterday on the Marc Steiner Show, as former city Recreation and Parks Department Director Chris Delaporte and three City Councilmen came on the program to discuss it. (Podcast here.) Listeners calling in provided perhaps the [...]

    • _________________________________________________________________________ BIKING!! That’s at least the takeaway message we got from the photos that were snapped of Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake this morning during Bike To Work Day. Rawlings-Blake was beaming in pretty much all the shots we got of her from Meredith Mitchell of Baltimore Bicycle Works, where the mayor and city bike czar Nate [...]
