Tonight, a group of artists occupying some of the century-old  Mt. Vernon mill buildings in Hampden will be hosting their first-ever group show in a new gallery space, which they will debut along with their first collaboration.

The Brew wrote about the grassroots group of around 15 artists earlier this month. We described how they might be displaced by a mixed-use development that promises to transform the former cotton duck mill building they occupy into a residential and commercial complex along the lines of Clipper Mill.

In spite of the uncertain future of their workspace and their community, the artists aren’t acting like a group that’s leaving anytime soon. As developer Terra Nova Ventures is moving forward with its plans for the buildings, so too are the artists who use them as the home to their studios and, now, after extensive renovations and preparation, a showcase for their work.

Dave Zezulinski, who spearheaded renovating the gallery space, is “very excited” about the group’s first collective event, which will also include a tour of four newly renovated work studios.

“It’s a great collaboration of artists in all mediums,” said Zezulinski, who is a sculptor. “There are especially exciting works in progress for ArtScape.”

The event is open to the public and Zezulinski said he hopes to get a good turnout (Event details on flier above).
