On Friday night, eight of the fifteen or so artists occupying the  Mt. Vernon Mill buildings in Hampden hosted their first art show in a newly constructed gallery space spearheaded by sculptor Dave Zezulinski, transforming what was previously a dark huddle of work studios into a bright, white, and airy space.

The show was untitled, without a theme and much of the work was unattributed, but it was still a unique debut, complete with a diverse array of mediums and artists with different backgrounds, ages and skills.  Highlights included an automated balloon machine and drum set, a chair made from the hood of a car (all three have been accepted into ArtScape) and a giant portrait of a cowboy.

The Brew has continued to follow the artists’ community ever since first writing about them in May.  Check out our slide show for a thorough look at the art displayed during Friday’s  show, which included young people, old people, free wine and a DJ spinning Sly and the Family Stone. Look for more interesting work to come out of this talented, rough-around-the-edges community.
