Wal-Mart trying to open store in DC too
Above: Smiley face guy, we must obey him!
Big-box behemoth Wal-Mart is negotiating to open a store in Washington, with negotiations underway on a possible site on New York Avenue NE, near the Bladensburg Road intersection, The Washington Post reported yestrday.
The project would be the first in DC by the Arkansas-based chain, which has been pushing to expand into urban locations lately, including Baltimore.
The parcel in question is owned by brothers Andrew, Dave and Jerry Schaeffer, who own both a large local taxi company, The Post reports. The parcel includes a strip club and used auto parts shops and doesn’t need a zoning change, according to the newspaper.
Baltimore residents, who have been debating a proposal by developer Rick Walker to do a Wal-Mart-anchored mixed-use project in Remington, will find the dialogue among the The Post’s commenters very familiar.
