What Gerry Neily and others said on Steiner show
Trenchant commentary, expert insight, lively debate and the bottom line on transit in Charm City: “It just sucks.”
Here’s the podcast of Brew contributor Gerald Neily on the Marc Steiner Show (WEAA 88.9 FM) yesterday, talking about transportation.
We haven’t heard the whole thing yet, but the snippet we caught made it sound like this knowledgeable panel stayed away from the usual bureaucratic blah-blah and actually said something real about this curently hot topic.
Asked by a caller what the problem is with transit in Baltimore, why you just can’t get anywhere, why nothing connects, why it’s easier to get from one New York borough to another than to go from one side of Baltimore to the other, Otis Rolley began with the short answer:
“It just sucks,” he said.
Besides Neily, a former transportation planner with the city of Baltimore, and Rolley, senior manager with the consulting firm Urban Policy Development, Steiner’s guests included Christopher Field, president of the Transit Riders Action Council (TRAC) and Dan Pontious, Transportation advocate and former Executive Director of the Citizens Planning and Housing Association.
