Randy Newman’s sad and beautiful ballad, “Baltimore,” popped up in the Brew yesterday, in Gerry Neily’s post about the part of the city that inspired it – the decimated East Baltimore neighborhood train travelers see when they roll into town from New York.
That’s a good enough reason, we thought, to put up a link to this great song – here’s the Nina Simone version, with scenes from season’s 4 and 5 of David Simon’s “The Wire” behind it. Considering what’s going on in our not-so-charming city lately, it seems like the right soundtrack. Let Newman’s song hurt your heart, and Jennifer Bishop’s photo maybe heal it.
