Former appearance of the recent Milton/Eager loft (Milton Avenue just south of Amtrak tracks, two blocks east of Patterson Park Avenue) (Photo by Gerald Neily).

I had just published a photo of a woebegone industrial loft building at the corner of Milton and Eager Streets that Randy Newman could have easily seen from his train window in 1977 when he wrote “Baltimore.”  Then reader Shannon informed the Brew that this building has been beautifully renovated and is now playing an active role in life near the Amtrak tracks.

The whole story is contained in the “before” picture, which I took in May 2006, and the “after” picture that I just took today. Thank you for setting me straight, Shannon, who also informs us that the building was redeveloped by the Historic East Baltimore Community Action Coalition.
And please accept my apology, everyone. After I had written my article, I impulsively grabbed an old photo of a nearby building even though it really had little to do with the main point of the article about MICA PLACE, three blocks away on Collington Avenue.

What was an empty derelict building in 2006 is now the handsome Harry and Jeannette Weinberg Community Center.
