Elected offiicials and the Baltimore NAACP called on candidtate Gregg Bernstein today to take down this campaign ad, in which former city state’s attorney’s office employee DiTonya Madden blames incumbent City State’s Attorney Patricia C. Jessamy for the death of the Dawson children in 2002.

They died in a fire set after Angela Dawson testified against drug dealers.

Madden blamed the tragedy on Jessamy’s “mismanagement.” Jessamy has responded, since the ad began running this week, that Dawson rejected offers of protection because she didn’t want to leave her home.

Surviving family members filed a $14 million lawsuit against the city saying the family was not adequately protected but the suit was dismissed by the Maryland Court of Appeals which found that officials were not to blame.
