A friend introduced me to Tennis’ sweet and cheeky single, “Marathon,” earlier this summer and it has since become my official warm weather anthem.

Why should you care?

Well, for one, because the Denver-based performers have another great song called “Baltimore,” of all things.  And two, because the charming, easy-to-listen-to pair is one of a slew of acts coming to Baltimore this weekend for the city’s brand-new three-day indie music festival, BiMA (Baltimore Independent Music & Arts Festival), which will play out in venues all over the city for the next three days (Thurs 8/26 – Sun 8/28. Tickets are $19.50 per day or $49 for all three).

In honor of BiMA’s debut, here’s an eclectic and entirely subjective sampling of some of the Brew’s favorite BiMa acts, and when and where to find them this weekend:

Tennis – Sat 8/28, 1 am (technically Sun 8/29) @ Hexagon

Peelander-Z (“Japanese Action Comic Punk”) – Thurs 8/26, 12:50 am (technically 8/27) @ Ottobar

Thrushes (Baltimore Indie/Rock/Shoegaze) – Fri 8/27, 10 pm @ the WindUp Space

Hammer No More the Fingers (Mellow North Carolina rock) – Fri 8/27 @ 12:40 am (technically 8/28) @ the WindUp Space

BiMA will feature 140 regional and national artists at 10 different Baltimore venues including Ottobar, Sonar, the Windup Space and the G-Spot. Click here for the full lineup and schedule.
