Integrating Sparrows Point: an African-American union leader looks back
Eddie Bartee Sr. was on the front lines of the integration of Baltimore’s Bethlehem Steel mill, on the heels of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. In a piece being aired today at 9 a.m. by WYPR’s Maryland Morning, Bartee describes the day when the consent decree took effect.
Bartee’s reminiscence was the first installment in the show’s series “Across the Divide: Stories of Race in Baltimore,” which was part of Open Society Institute-Baltimore’s “Talking about Race” project.
