Washington-area air traffic controllers have made more than 45 errors this year and “have exceeded annual error totals for every year” since 2003, according to a recent article in the Washington Post.  How does this impact Charm City?

TRACON (Potomac Terminal Radar Approach Control), the group of traffic controllers that oversees Dulles, is, since 2003, also responsible for monitoring the skies surrounding BWI, as well as Reagan National, Andrews Air Force, and Richmond International.

TRACON  is essentially responsible for preventing airplanes from crashing midair in the skies immediately surrounding the airport.

According to the Post, recent notable errors include a situation this month in which a Delta 537 was allowed to turn into the “potentially deadly turbulent wake of a United 757” during their final approach to Reagan.
