Baltimore City schools spending $320,000 to prevent cheating on state tests

Baltimore City Public Schools have hired and trained 157 test monitors at a cost of $320,000 to combat cheating during the Maryland School Assessment test (MSA) that every student will take this month, starting today, The Baltimore Sun reports.

This year’s increased test security comes after an investigation at George Washington Elementary School revealed that they had tampered with the test booklets in 2008.

City schools CEO Andres Alonso said the monitors were hired to remove any question about student achievement this year.

“We want our accomplishments to shine without a shadow of a doubt, and unfortunately when a few do wrong, there will always be some who question our kids,” Alonso told The Sun.
