Survivor’s notes on living a year in Baltimore without a car

His goals were to “experience Baltimore outside the confines of 1,000 pounds of metal, educate myself on the issues and barriers of living without a car in the U.S., and sculpt my body into the likeness of a Roman God.”

So now, after a year of taking city buses and riding his bike, did Baltimore City transportation planner Mark R. Brown succeed? In the final post on his blog, Car Free Baltimore, Brown sums up, month-by-month,  what happened after he ditched his four-wheeler.

By month four, it seems, he was already getting pretty hard-core:

“I … begin to snub my nose at people who call themselves ‘car free’ but who bum rides off of their friends all the time,” he writes. “I begin refusing rides. Even from the cute girls.  Have I become Arthur Rimbaud?”

He said he “lost 15 pounds and then some” (nice going!), but did he achieve Roman God-hood? Feel free to send a photo, Mark . . .
