VIDEO: Baltimore city teacher Chip Dizard on his better week, his students’ work

Above: For the latest installment of his weekly video-blogcast, Baltimore city media teacher Chip Dizard moved off his porch and into his kitchen.

Video-blogging Baltimore city school-teacher Chip Dizard had a “very good, very promising” week and he describes it in the latest of his weekly posts about life as a first-year teacher.  Here he talks about how his students completed a project to make “back-to-school” public service announcements, one of which, by Destiny Murray, is featured on the city schools website. (Here’s the whole list of them.)

Dizard talks about his own learning curve and about the process of making sure his media production students are getting a well-rounded education.

“They see cameras, they see brand-new equipment …some of them think it’s playtime,” he says in the video. “I make sure I say ‘Hey, how are you doing in your math? How are you doing in your English? How are you doing in your history classes?’ Because the classes support what you do. If you want to go into a career you have to be a well-rounded individual.”

Dizard’s first video-blog post on The Brew: “A (rough) day in the life of a Baltimore teacher” (9/28/11)
