Make a poll-worker’s day today, Baltimore – vote!

It’s Election Day in Baltimore! You could put the lie to predictions of epic low turnout, city voters, if you stampeded down to your local polling place and did the deed.

Pursuing long-shot candidacies in heavily Democratic Baltimore, a brace of Republicans, independents, Libertarians and Green Party candidates are challenging Democratic incumbents for  the positions of Mayor, City Council President, and City Council in Baltimore’s 14 districts.

There are also two ballot measures to consider, one which lowers the age for serving on the City Council from 21 to 18 and the other allows the city to consolidate grants and donations for city schools.

Baltimore’s 290 polling places are open now and will close at 8 p.m.

* The photo above is from an Occupy Baltimore Flickr gallery. It shows former City Council President write-in candidate Tom Kiefaber (the former Senator Theater owner) alongside a depiction of the merrily corrupt fictional character in “The Wire,” Maryland State Senator Clay Davis. If anyone can tell us who made the posters (and shot the picture) we’ll happily credit you!

UPDATE: Kiefaber writes in Brew comments that the posters were made for him by Laura  Serena, (aka blogger “Astrogirl”) for his political campaign.
