Scene, after Ravens tailgaters left

A less savory scene from yesterday’s Ravens’ victory over the Texans was trash – trash that came from Ravens tailgating parties that border the Sharp-Leadenhall community in South Baltimore.
After we reported on the trash problem earlier in the season, the Maryland Stadium Authority took steps to curb the debris through better recycling and by controlling the crowd with a temporary metal fence.
Vernon J. Conaway Jr., director of security and public safety, said sanitation crews were also instructed to clean the border areas between state and city property along Sharp St. and Solo Gibbs Park.
There was very little litter back in November when we visited the site the day after the Ravens’ home game against the Cardinals.
But today we found pockets of mess, including empty beer cans and bottles, discarded pizza boxes, half-eaten macaroni casseroles (yuck), plastic cups, a bag of ice, rolls and discarded pizza boxes.
Half-opened bags of garbage also were left on the grounds of Sharp-Leadenhall Elementary School where tailgaters had been actively partying on Sunday.
By contrast, the stadium parking lot under I-395 was swept clean of debris today, indicating that stadium crews had been at work after Sunday’s game.
