Thieves with a taste for exotic animals  stole several of them from the Carrie Murray Nature Center in Leakin Park this weekend, according to the Baltimore Police Department.

BPD Detective Jeremy Silbert,  reading from the police report, said that, “between November 13th and November 15th, an unknown suspect(s) entered the Carrie Murray Nature Center which is located in the 1900 block of Ridgetop Road.”

“They entered through a rear door of the Center and they left with several animals,” including one iguana, six box turtles, two geckos, one Madagascar hissing cockroach, and “some office supplies,” according to Silbert.

“Detectives were notified. Our crime lab also responded to the scene and processed evidence and took photographs. Detectives will be following up on the case.”

A Carrie Murray Nature Center employee has been fielding calls from reporters today and are awaiting permission to publicly discuss the incident.

First news of the crime came from a tweet this afternoon from Baltimore Sun crime reporter Justin Fenton.
