Ah, the problem of identity theft.

Today, Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake discovered that an Instagram account – “mayorsrb” – is impersonating her and asking Instagram users to “Like,” “Follow” and send their e-mail addresses in order to receive a scholarship to the college of their choice.

“It’s very unfortunate that someone would take the time to create a hoax that misrepresents me and plays on the emotions of prospective students seeking higher education,” the mayor says via her communications staff. “Please do not follow this page or send any personal information to it.”

The Instagram account username is identical to Mayor Rawlings-Blake’s official Twitter handle, @MayorSRB. Rawlings-Blake does not currently have an official Instagram.
