Light Rail service in Baltimore fully restored

Emergency repairs took only a week to complete

The Maryland Transit Administration reopened the Light Rail stops at Mt. Washington, Cold Spring and Woodberry this morning – and through service between Hunt Valley and BWI Airport/Glen Burnie has been restored.

Last Friday, the 30-mile transit line was partially closed (and passengers rerouted on buses) for emergency repairs to an eroded stretch of right-of-way near the Cold Spring Station.

The erosion, which had undermined an embankment carrying the line across the Jones Falls, was scheduled for three weeks of repairs.

Instead, a new retaining wall was completed two weeks ahead of time, and MTA’s safety and engineering departments confirmed yesterday that service could be restored.

During the last week, buses carried passengers over the gap in rail service between the North Avenue and Falls Road stations.
