February 2 came and went – and 2015 Bike Master Plan still not online

The city website still shows only the old plan from 2006

Above: The 2015 Baltimore Bike Master Plan has not been online, but Caitlln Doolin, the city’s bike and pedestrian planner, promised it would be posted yesterday.

The Baltimore City Bike Master Plan for 2015 was supposed to be posted online by February 2 – yesterday – for a two-week public comment period to last through February 17.

So said Caitlin Doolin, the city’s bicycle and pedestrian planner, at the master plan meeting last week in the Enoch Pratt Library.

But the document is nowhere to be found. The Department of Transportation website still shows only the last Bicycle Master Plan, the one from March 2006.

UPDATE: Minutes after we published this story, DOT said THEY FINALLY GOT THE PLAN UP ON THE SITE. Here’s the LINK.

EARLIER UPDATE: DOT spokesperson Adrienne Barnes told us this afternoon:

“We are experiencing technical difficulties and were unable to post the bicycle master plan yesterday as planned. However, we are currently working on getting this link up as soon as possible and will advise accordingly. Additionally, we will be extending the comment period by an additional two days [to February 19].”

The eagerly-awaited 94-page document, revised for the first time since then, was unveiled by Doolin and the Department of Transportation at the January 29 meeting. Nearly 100 cyclists came out to review the maps, provide input, and ask questions.

Several complained that they would like to have had access to the document online, rather than see it for the first time taped to the wall of the dimly-lit meeting room.

It charted an ambitious “vision” of 253 miles of bike paths by year 2028 without saying where the millions of dollars needed for the improvements would come from.

The Brew published highlights of the “final draft” version of the new plan, obtained from city sources, on January 15.
