Three teenagers last night crashed a white Dodge Ram pickup truck, stolen from an environmental group, into the office of a community renovation company as they tried to flee from police.

“No one was here at the time,” said Earl Johnson, who runs Come Home Baltimore, a community group in Oliver that uses the building for its headquarters.

A neighborhood walk had been scheduled around the time of the crash, Johnson added, and participants inside or in front of the building could have been seriously hurt.

City police began following the Dodge Ram pickup shortly after 6 p.m. on the 2300 block of Monument Street, the incident report states.

Three vehicles matching that description were recently stolen from Blue Water Baltimore, an organization that protects the city’s waterways.

The pickup made a turn on North Ellwood Avenue, heading toward Madison Street, then ran a stop sign on Madison, where it sideswiped a Dodge Durango and proceeded to run several red lights.

The truck continued westbound on Madison and then made a right onto Bond Street, striking the Come House building and damaging two other rowhouses.

The force of the truck’s impact tore a stop sign out of the ground.

14 and 15 Years Old

Two youths, age 14 and 15, were apprehended near the scene of the crash after a brief foot chase, according to police.

Another suspect changed his clothes in an alley after witnesses saw him exit the vehicle. He was later picked up by police.

The three youth were uninjured and taken to the Juvenile Justice Center for processing.

Reached by The Brew today, David Flores, Blue Water’s waterkeeper, deferred comment on the incident.

According to police, one of the suspects is employed by Blue Water and had access to vehicle keys.
