Stepping out in style in Mt. Vernon, Gay Pride parade marks 40-year anniversary

Annual event brings Baltimore’s gay, lesbian, transsexual and transgender communities together

Hula-hoopers gyrated, beads were tossed, selfies were snapped and politicians worked the crowd at the Gay Pride parade Saturday that kicked off Baltimore’s weekend of celebration and solidarity.

We snapped away too, capturing some images from the event, which had some extra resonance this year with the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision affirming that same-sex marriage is the law of the land.

The event also had a little wistfulness for some, with the venerable Hippo bar announcing plans to close and turn the place over to – sigh – a future CVS drugstore.

Anyway, here’s a bit of what we saw.
