Like to give new city schools CEO Gregory Thornton some advice as he takes over the top job at North Avenue? The Fund for Educational Excellence is conducting a survey where citizens can offer their thoughts and advice.

The Baltimore-based non-profit is conducting a “neighborhood-by-neighborhood study of public opinion about our schools in order to develop a set of recommendations from Baltimore communities for the incoming CEO of Baltimore City Public Schools.”

The results will inform a report they plan to hand the new schools chief as he begins his freshman year.

“This report will provide information on what Baltimore residents want for and from their public schools, and will help create community-driven recommendations for the new leader of the school district,” the group says in the text accompanying the survey on their website.

Among the questions they ask (with the promise that answers are anonymous and will be kept confidential):

What are your impressions of Baltimore City Schools?
What is City Schools doing well? What could they improve on?
How would you describe your neighborhood today?
How do public schools contribute to your vision for this neighborhood? What role should they play?
What if anything does City Schools need to do differently to achieve your vision for your neighborhood and city schools?

Roger Schulman is president and CEO of the Fund for Educational Excellence. Its Board of Directors is headed by James Mathias, of DLA Piper. Tisha Edwards, whos  served as interim CEO, is ex officio.
