Second sewer spill reported along the Gwynns Falls

For the second time in 10 days, raw sewage has been dumped into the Gwynns Falls from clogged Baltimore City sewer lines.

The latest spill, reported last night and stopped this morning, released an estimated 46,000 gallons of sewage in the 200 block of North Hilton Street. The sewage entered the storm drain and flowed into the Gwynns Falls.

On January 15-16, there was an overflow just a few blocks east, in the 900 block of Ellicott Driveway. That spill released an estimated 19,000 gallons of sewage into the Gwynns Falls near West Baltimore Street, according to the Department of Public Works.

Both spills were attributed to grease, rags, sand, gravel, trash and tree roots blocking flow in the sewer pipes.
