Digit All Systems will hold a “computers for guns” exchange this Saturday at the Greater Baltimore Urban League’s office at 512 Orchard Street in West Baltimore.

Between 2 and 4 p.m., owners of guns can turn them in and receive a free laptop or tablet with no questions asked, says Lance Lucas, CEO of the Baltimore-based technology company and president of the Greater Baltimore Black Chamber of Commerce.

“The exchange represents a collective, interactive and community approach to addressing Baltimore’s gun violence epidemic,” he said.

Only firearms, such as handguns and rifles, will be accepted. BB guns, air guns, paintballs and the like will not qualify for the exchange.

Challenging Local Leaders

The event, co-sponsored by the Police Department, Mayor’s Office of Criminal Justice, One Baltimore and the Urban League, will highlight “how computers and technology offer a pathway for youth to success,” Lucas told The Brew.

Digit All has previously held successful guns-for-laptop exchanges in McElderry Park and North Baltimore.

As part of Saturday’s event, Lucas plans to challenge city and state leaders by outlining his “Five Point Cyber Plan” for job training and development of more jobs in cyber security.

He also wants the city and business groups to create an “innovation cluster” with resources to promote the commercialization of technology within a specific field or discipline.
