A plea for tolerance at an interfaith rally in Baltimore, amid concerns about violence toward Muslims, refugees and people of color
Above: A plea for tolerance, at interfaith rally in Mount Vernon.
People from many faith traditions got together today in Baltimore and made an urgent plea: end the hate.
More than 75 people gathered at the Washington Monument in Mount Vernon to call for an end to racism and in particular to the suspicion and hatred directed lately toward Muslims.
There were songs from the Quran, quotes from Christian hymns (“Let there be peace and let it begin with me”) and references to the bond that Jewish people feel to those forced to wander far from home.
“My Jewish tradition taught me that refuge is a right,” said the sign one person held. “Reject Islamophobia. End racism.”
Organizers of the event include essayist Tariq Touré and Pastor Jason Chestnut of the Slate Project.
Here are some of the photos participants posted on social media today.
