Pride marches through Baltimore: A photo essay
Scenes from the city’s annual SGL and LGBTQ celebration

There was drumming and dancing. Politics and puppets. Sturdy Birkenstock sandals and precarious platform heels.
Charles Street was bursting with sassy spectacle yesterday, as participants in the 2017 Baltimore Pride Festival strutted their stuff for the centerpiece of the weekend, the Pride Parade.
The 2017 theme for this annual celebration of Maryland’s SGL (same-gender loving) and LGBTQ communities was “Pride Unleashed.”
With events planned this year in the Old Goucher/Charles North neighborhood, the parade stretched from the Madison Street intersection to a judging stand at North Avenue.
We watched them, after a long march on a hot day, turn literal cartwheels in some cases at the end and captured some images of the day.
