Trio among the tree-os

Above: Saturday was a great day for playing (classical music) in the park.

Druid Hill Park was hopping on a spectacular spring weekend in Baltimore.

The sound of live reggae mixed with the quacking of ducks skimming the reservoir at Saturday’s EcoFest 2015 sponsored by the city Department of Recreation and Parks.

Bikes were being borrowed (courtesy of the Ride Around the Reservoir program), and tree seedlings were being handed out for free (thanks to the TreeBaltimore Giveaway program.)

Meanwhile up the hill, closer to the Howard Peters Rawlings Conservatory, another sweet and more spontaneous scene was playing out.

A string trio, composed of three young women camped out at a picnic table, was practicing a classical tune.

“Are you part of a school or some program?” we asked them.

“We’re just working on some things,” the cellist said with a smile.

“We’re just kind of hanging out!”

And with that, they went back at the piece they were perfecting, sawing away at their instruments. eyes closed.

On a nearby path, one of the people carrying away a free tree paused for a moment to listen and then continued on, cradling the branches in his arms.
